Jury Policies and Judging Procedures
Students of the 2011 Competition judges are not eligible to compete (this includes current and former students). Participants of Master Classes with any of the 2011 Competition jury members in the last two years are also ineligible.
Preliminary Round
After the Preliminary Round (based on DVD recordings submitted) twenty two (22) candidates will be invited to participate in the first round of the 2011 Florida International Piano Competition. Three (3) alternates will also be chosen and notified NO LATER THAN JULY 10th 2011 that they may be contacted to participate in the competition should a candidate become unavailable. All recordings will be identified only by name and repertoire performed without any information as to qualifications of the applicant. Two independent and highly qualified pre-competition judges will be responsible for making selections. The names of the judges will be released after selections are made.
First Round
At the completion of the First Round, the seven judges will submit eight contestants and three alternates’ names to Laurent Boukobza, Artistic Director of the competition and voting member of the jury. The eight contestants receiving the most number of votes will advance to the Semi-Final Round. In the case of a tie, the jury will be asked to vote again ONLY for the contestants in a tie. If a juror withdraws, the Artistic Director can vote twice.
Semi-Final Round
At the completion of the Semi-Final Round, the same procedure will be used with the difference that three finalist's names and one alternate will be selected by each jury member.
Final Round
At the completion of the Final Round, the Jury members will be asked to select the winner first. A finalist who gets three or more votes will be declared the competition winner. In the event of a tie, the competition Jury will be asked to choose between the tied competitors through secret voting.
The same procedure will be used in determining the second prize winner. The third prize winner will be declared based on results of selecting the first two.
The Jury's decisions are final and not subject to review.
