Larry Hoppen

You probably know Larry Hoppen’swork from hearing his soaring tenor voiceon Still The One, Love Takes Time and Dance With Me. Lead singer / “The Voice” on those American classics, he’s also playing guitar and keyboards on all, plus bass and melodica on the latter! His band ORLEANS (www.OrleansOnline.com) is a lifelong “work in progress”.
In 2012, Orleans will celebrate its 40th Anniversary!
From a musical family that goes back generations (Granddad was a radio star in the 1920s-30s, Larry’s parents met in a band in the 1940s) he has been performing with his two younger bothers for over 30 years. His band-leading skills most recently came to the fore when, in the late 1990s, he began working with notable recording artists, forming Rock & Pop AllStars www.RockAndPopMasters.com and acting as Music Director.
Larry’s been doing ‘solo gigs’ since the mid-90s as well; with a guitar, piano and lots of stories behind his hits, life on the road and in the ‘music biz’ etc, his one-man performances go beyond good music, adding humor and depth. He loves the intimacy of solo shows in smaller venues. “It’s a very different experience than a full band concert in a larger place; I get off on the nuance and subtlety that’s possible, plus the closeness with the audience - it’s always fresh and unique”.
Larry has also been involved in music for advertising, movies, TV, helping children afflicted with HIV and many other worthy causes/events. Since mid-2010, a few highlights have been performing for Sir Richard Branson, 5 shows for our Troops in Iraq and shows to support Food Bank efforts in North Carolina, Sarasota FL, Woodstock, NY and in his hometown in Florida. This October the Orleans Trio plays 6 shows in Holland then 2 in Scotland. He lives in Central Florida with his wife, twin girls (also on a musical path!), 4 cats and a dog.
Rolling Stone Magazine lists Orleans’ megahit “Still The One” on its all time ‘great songs of summer’ . Larry has Gold Records for both “Still The One” and “Dance With Me”. The Top 10 hit “Love Takes Time” has well over 1 million airplays and his “Juliet” was a Top 10 Country hit by the Oak Ridge Boys in 1986.
Over the decades Larry’s been onstage with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills, Little Feat, Lulu, Felix Cavaliere, Robbie Dupree, Spencer Davis, Edgar Winter and countless others. You’ll find him on albums by diverse artists like Graham Parker, Blues Traveler, Michael Franks, Livingston Taylor, Ricky Skaggs, Steve Wariner, Robbie Dupree.
When asked his favorite artists, songwriters James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald always come up - JT for his incomparable stage presence and rapport, Bonnie for her earthy honesty, sense of humor and Michael for his incomparable voice.
